VINCENNES, IND. (WTHI) -        A southern Indiana community has laid out some new plans for a new community pool.

Vincennes officials have drawn up plans for a new family aquatic center to replace the Rainbow Beach Pool.

The project appears to be on schedule to go before the voters next spring.

Rainbow Beach Pool in Vincennes is closed.

Officials say the pool has problems from the pump house to the pool house and a lot of spots in between.

After months of work the city appears to have a design set for its potential replacement.

"It's a 9 member committee and we tried to get together what we thought were amenities we wanted at this new facility and keep it at a price we thought was doable," said Vincennes Parks Superintendent Steve Beaman.

The original Rainbow Beach Pool was built in the 1930's.

The current version in the '70's and officials say the new design will not be your grandpa's swimming hole.

"It's not just a swimming hole," said Beaman.  "It's a place for the family to go that has different areas for different demographics."

Drawings show a new pool that includes slides, splash pads, zero depth entry and the other goodies that the community has asked for.

Right now the rough price tag is around $3.8-million, and one of the next moves on this project is figuring out how that cost will impact the public.

"We still have a couple of more things we want to get finalized which are the tax numbers," said Beaman.  "How it's going to affect the property tax.  We're having those numbers worked on right now."

Officials say  the public will get a chance to see the complete plans and costs at a public hearing sometime next month.

The city is also beginning a fund raising effort in an attempt to lower the impact on the tax rate.

The referendum on the pool is planned for next May.
