FREELANDVILLE, Ind. (WTHI) - Police were in a standoff situation with 73-year-old Larry Wrench for almost 5 hours in Freelandville, Indiana after he fired a round off outside his home Wednesday morning.
Police were called around 9:00 a.m. to the man’s home by a neighbor.
Police have tried to make contact with Wrench but he wouldn’t answer phone calls or answer the door.
The Sheriff said that he was out to the house earlier this week because the man was seeing things. The Sheriff also said the man is known to have mental problems.
"It's a situation to where we could not let him exit the property due to the fact of weapons being involved and we did not know his exact state of mind," said Mike Morris, Knox County Sheriff.
State Road 159 was closed in all directions in Freelandville on Wednesday morning.
Police managed to take 73-year-old Larry Wrench into custody and transported him to a hospital for evaluation.
