DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - City, county and state officials in southern Indiana are looking at a study that calls for changes along Business 50 at the new I-69 intersection.

A feasibility study on the impact of I-69 on Washington and Daviess County is suggesting some big changes to Business 50.

The study says that with the interstate coming through the area, Business 50 will be the gateway to the community.

In order to capture the most from the project, the city and county need to move part of U.S. 50 as part of a $20 million development.

"I-69 will be huge and we would anticipate Business 50 becoming the gateway into Washington," said Ron Arnold. "That close to an interchange certainly lends itself to development in the industrial-manufacturing sector."

The changes also include $10 million in improvements to Business 50 in Washington as part of a plan to have the city take possession of the roadway.

Washington officials have repeatedly turned down state offers to take over the road because they say the old highway needs to be rebuilt.
