NSP 3 Ready

BICKNELL, IND. (WTHI) -     A small southern Indiana city is about to move forward on another major improvement project.

     Bicknell has already nearly completed a $1.2 million Neighborhood Stabilization project.

     The community is now gearing up to start an even larger second project.


     An old battered old house along South Main Street in Bicknell is the kind of property that ruins a neighborhood.

     Now the city is just a vote away from getting rid of it and replacing it with a new home.

     It's all part of the $2 million Neighborhood Stabilization-3 project.

     "We've been cleared to go ahead," said Bicknell Mayor Jon Flickinger.  "We'll have a public meeting in October at the council meeting and when the council approves everything we'll go ahead."

     The plans call for some demolition and the construction of new homes along 3 different streets in the southwestern part of town, just south of the city's first Neighborhood Stabilization Project.


     The Neighborhood Stabilization grants are making a difference.

  Officials say now almost one third of the city will be going through an improvement project.

     "It's really going to improve the neighborhoods in those locations in the city of Bicknell," said Flickinger.

     Projects that not only get rid of problem properties but put some new life into the small community.

     "I'm great.  I feel great," said Flickinger.  "We've got $3.3 million to build homes in the city here."
     Something that can help those who live along South Main now and who might want to live there in the future.

     Bicknell officials say that weather permitting construction and demolition projects could begin in November.
