VINCENNES, IND. (WTHI) - A southern Indiana county joins a long list of areas in the Wabash Valley with bans on open burning.
Firefighters in Knox County say they have had plenty of runs to put out field fires over the last several weeks.
Now, the fire departments will be getting some help.
Knox County now has a burn ban in place, even though the area did receive a touch of rain over the weekend.
"I think one thing everybody understands is that you know we had 2/10ths of an inch of rain this past weekend, and that by no means fixed the problem," said Vincennes Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tim Smith. "We still have very dry conditions."
Officials say they will be assessing the fire danger week by week, but for now have put a ban on all open burning in Knox County.
