BICKNELL, IND. (WTHI) - An accident at a natural gas well leads to the evacuation of a southern Indiana High school.
Knox County authorities report at 10 a.m. on Friday, a contractor was attempting to close a natural gas well about a half mile from North Knox High School. Workers hit a pocket of gas and natural gas began spewing out of the pipe.
Officials shut down the school and sent students to the Central Elementary School in Bicknell.
Police also closed State Road 159 between Bicknell and Freelandville.
Workers managed to cap the pipe around noon and students were returned to the High School and the road was re-opened to traffic.
There was no explosion, and no one was injured.
The Sullivan vs. North Knox football game for Friday night is still on.
