Farbest Groundbreaking

VINCENNES, IND. (WTHI) -       A Wabash Valley community celebrates a major agri-business project that is going to mean hundreds of new jobs and more than $100-million in new investment.

     FarBest Foods has already started work on a $20-million feed mill near Bruceville and will spend an additional $54-million on new turkey growing operations in a 3 state area.

     The project's centerpiece is a new turkey processing plant in Vincennes.

     State, local and company officials put the golden shovels in the dirt and broke ground for a huge new turkey processing plant in Vincennes.

     The company intends to build a state of the art 227,000 square foot facility there.

     Farbest officials say they picked the site for a simple reason.

     "The people of Knox County and the people of Vincennes opened their arms," said FarBest President Ted Seger.  "They made us feel really really welcome and that was the overwhelming reason by that we chose Knox County."

     FarBest is building a $74-million dollar turkey processing plant in Vincennes and when it opens in 2014 it is expected to add at least 300 new jobs to the area.

     "People at Farbest have been making opportunities for people for a long time and now that's about to get much bigger," said Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels.
 
     In fact the expectation is that once the construction is done  the company will quickly look to add a second shift that could put the number of jobs at 600.

    "We look forward, we couldn't be happier to make this investment here," said Seger.  "I really can't wait until the next 2 years are over with.  I'm ready to run."

     Now, the sprint is on to get this project that spent 18 months in the planning stage into reality.

   Farbest has already begun hiring some of the senior management for the new operations in Knox County.
