DAVIESS COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A southern Indiana county begins work toward county-wide zoning.
The route for I-69 in Daviess County is staked out and construction is expected to begin soon.
County officials say the new road has them looking hard at putting in a zoning ordinance for the first time ever.
Since spot zoning is illegal, officials say that all corners of the county will have to be covered by ordinance.
They say it is necessary to keep some undesirable development from following the interstate to the area.
"We're trying to avoid the adult entertainment. We don't want something like they've got down in the Dale area with the Highway 231 exit that's got a very large adult entertainment arena." Tony Wichman, Daviess County offical tells News 10.
Daviess County officials say that with the accelerated schedule for construction of I-69 they will have to move much faster to put the zoning ordinance in place.
