TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The community continues to remember fallen Terre Haute Police Officer Brent Long and the athletic community has found their own way to pay their respects.
South Vigo High School retired Officer Long's jersey at the long-time North vs. South Victory Bell game. The athletic community donated $3,000 for the memorial fund.
During the game Long's fellow officers raised more than $6,000.
Officer Long's comrades showed up to support Long's family as both schools honored the fallen officer.
"You know he went to south played at south. And you know they're gonna retire his jersey. The community has just been amazing in their support,” Terre Haute Police Chief John Plasse said.
The Officer Brent Long Memorial Fund will pay for a statue in Officer Long's memory.
