TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Some folks in Terre Haute are boycotting British Petroleum or BP.
That is the company that owned the oil rig that exploded in the Gulf of Mexico causing a massive oil leak.
Some locals have decided to boycott BP by refusing to buy their products or fill up from their gas stations.
However, not all BP labeled gas stations are owned by the oil and gas giant.
Some are privately owned.
Plus, BP is the biggest provider of oil and gas in the U.S., meaning boycotting BP could hurt the economy.
"I never did advocate off-shore drilling and I will be boycotting BP products," BP boycotter Carole Hood said.
Despite the threat of boycott, officials with BP say they have not seen an impact at the pump.
However, their stock shares have plummeted 34 percent since the gulf explosion.
That made the company's value go down by 58 billion dollars.
