Smoking ban: two days in

Two days after smoking bans took effect across Indiana and in Vigo County, bars and clubs in the Wabash Valley are already adapting to the change.

Bars around Terre Haute have already added signs to their entrances explaining that smoking is forbidden inside and that patrons cannot smoke within eight feet of the entrance.

Those News 10 spoke with said their customers have been well aware of the new regulations and have complied with them.

“Mostly, we’ve had regulars in here since this started … and they’ve been great,” said Bruce Adelman, owner of Bohannon’s Bar on Wabash Avenue. “They’ve been upset about it, understandably so, but they’ve been really good about going outside the establishment to (smoke).”

Adelman said it’s too soon to tell just how smoking bans will affect business at his bar, a thought echoed a few blocks away at VFW Post 972.

“(Business) has been a little thin,” said Andy Whitt of Post 972. “We don’t know if it’s the smoking ban or the holiday. Right now, it’s too early to tell what’s going on.”
