TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Firefighters had to evacuate a local middle school late Thursday afternoon for fear of fire.
Honey Creek firefighters got an emergency call around 5:30 p.m. that smoke was coming out of the second floor of Honey Creek Middle School, on the south side of Terre Haute.
What they found was smoke coming from a belt inside a handler machine. The smoke filled one of school rooms.
The only students at the school were there for after-school sports.
No one was injured.
