TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute Patrolman Brent Long was shot and killed on Monday while serving a warrant inside a home at 1812 N. 8th Street in Terre Haute.

Police say that Shaun M. Seeley, 33 of Terre Haute was the man who shot and killed Officer Long. They also say that Seeley was the person who was wanted on the original warrant that Officer Long and the other police were trying to serve.

It is believed by police that Seeley opened fire on Officer Long the moment he entered the home. Long then returned fire after he was wounded.

An autopsy is currently being performed on Officer Long at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Pathologist Dr. Roland Kohr.

The autopsy on Seeley is scheduled for Wednesday morning, July 13, at Terre Haute Regional Hospital by Dr. Roland Kohr.

Officer Long was a K-9 handler and accompanied by his police dog “Shadow” at the time of the shooting. “Shadow” was also wounded by gunfire and transported to a local veterinarian hospital reportedly in critical condition.  He was taken to an animal hospital at Purdue University for further treatment on Tuesday and we have been told that he is doing well.

It is unknown if more arrests will occur.
