TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A man authorities believe shot and killed a Terre Haute Police officer Monday had been sentenced to twelve years in prison in 2005, following a lengthy criminal past.

That man, Shaun Seeley, died in the exchange.

In 1997, Seeley was sentenced to four years in prison on charges of assisting a criminal, after he had been found to have helped burn the body of the victim in a drug related murder.

Court documents report Seeley had helped transport and burn the body of Seelyville resident Robert Philips.

Then, in 1999, he was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of possessing marijuana.

In 2005, Seeley was sentenced to twelve years in prison on charges of methamphetamine distribution.

He was released in 2010.
