TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Wounded Terre Haute K-9 police officer Shadow returned home to his family on Friday.
It's just over a month since the day Officer Brent Long was shot and killed .
Shadow was also hit but is recovering from his injuries.
Shadow lived with Officer Long while the two were partners in the K-9 unit of the Terre Haute Police Department.
After he was injured in the line of duty, Shadow was treated at the Small Animal Hospital at Purdue University.
He received a hero's welcome when he returned to Terre Haute and has spent the last few weeks in the care of the police department.
As a thank you for his service, Shadow is being retired from active duty.
