VIGO CO., Ind. (WTHI) - Sunday morning, Indiana State Police troopers responded to a call about a semi tractor-trailer overturned on Interstate 70 near the 2-mile-marker.

When state troopers arrived to the scene just east of the entrance to the Clear Creek Rest Area, they discovered the overturned vehicle.

Their initial investigation revealed Larry Larson, 69, of Scandia, Kan. was driving the semi tractor-trailer eastbound on I-70 when, for unknown reasons at this time, the vehicle veered to the right, struck and destroyed nearly 100 feet of guardrail before overturning onto the vehicle’s passenger side in a wooded area.

According to a release from the ISP, they believe Mr. Larson may have fallen asleep.

A minimal amount of diesel fuel was spilled, and was quickly cleaned up by the Sugar Creek Fire and Rescue Department.

Traffic was slow while crews cleaned up the wreckage.
