Rose-Hulman students design arm for boy

CLINTON, Ind. (WTHI) - Rose-Hulman students give a Wabash Valley boy a gift to help him live a better life.

Michael Amerman of Clinton was born without fully formed arms. It made small tasks like picking up a pencil difficult.

Two Rose-Hulman students used their senior project to create a prosthetic arm to assist Michael. The arm has a small hand that can bend and help him raise objects.

Wednesday they presented him with the finished product. After months of hard labor they say they never lacked a reason to continue working.

"Definitely a lot of frustrating times, but being able to know that we're giving it to him was really motivation to just work it out. Like we had to get it done, versus if it had just been for a grade,” Rose-Hulman student E.J. Oruche said.

The students say they will continue to make adjustments on the arm to help make Michael's life a little bit easier.
