Rose Hulman graduated 350, and dedicated building to former President

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Rose Hulman Institute of Technology celebrated their 134th commencement this morning.

More than 350 students were honored at Saturday’s ceremony. Dean Kamen gave the commencement address. Kamen is a well known inventor and boasts major ideas like the Segway.

For Rose faculty it's an exciting day as they send off new engineers to the world.

“You take these kids four years and you mold them. And you nurture them and now you get to see them and they're gonna blossom like a rose. They're gonna blossom and be the future engineers, scientists, and mathematicians that will be leading the next generation,” Dale Long Director of News Services for Rose-Hulman said.

At Saturday’s ceremony, graduates honored former President Matt Branam as well. Seniors wore a pin on their gowns that read "Make it happen, Make it fun."

The former President died unexpectedly in late April.  The university honored Branam, as well, by dedicating one of the buildings to him.

Matt Branam will forever have a legacy at his alma mater, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, as the Board of Trustees has voted unanimously to name the new Student Innovation Center in honor of the institute’s 14th president.

The facility, which opened last fall, is an incubator for creativity and collaboration from student competition teams. It was developed by Branam to be a modern day “garage of innovation.”

“The Branam Innovation Center will serve as a permanent reminder of the contributions President Matt Branam made to the institute,” stated Interim President Robert Coons in making the announcement during Rose-Hulman’s 134th commencement on May 26."
