TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Relaying thanked those that made this year's Relay for Life a success.

Area businesses, civic leaders and volunteers were honored at an appreciation luncheon Wednesday afternoon at Outback Steakhouse in Terre Haute.

36 teams participated in this year's Relay for Life and raised over $44,000.

Organizers said they're happy with the turnout and look forward to what the community can do to help cancer research next year.

"It's just important for us to thank our sponsors so they feel like they're appreciated, and we're not just asking them to help us just for donations and their time through the years. So this is a great way to say thank you, you know feed them and get every business pumped up and back involved for this coming year," 2013 Vigo County Relay for Life Chair Ashley Jones said.

2013 Relay for Life in Vigo County is Saturday, June 8th at Deming Park.

If you'd like to form a team for next year's relay or sponsor a team, call the American Cancer Society at (812) 232-2679.
