Vigo County property values see big changes

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - For Vigo County residents, You may have noticed some changes in your property assessments.  The Vigo County Taxpayers Association said Vigo County has gone through 5 percent drop since last year.

That adds up to about  $143 million.

It all means you may have seen a pretty steep decrease in your assessment. However, some have actually reported a noticeable increase.

News 10 went to find out why many of the numbers were so different from 2012 to 2013. Vigo County Assessor Deborah Lewis had an explanation.

"The biggest difference is that this is a reassessment year, and we haven't had a reassessment since 2002," Lewis said. She said a full reassessment essentially starts the property evaluation process from scratch.

As a result, you could see numbers dramatically different from last year. Lewis said if you have questions you should contact:

  • the Vigo County Assessors Office
  • (812) 462-3358
