CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - Authorities now know what caused a fire at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility in Carlisle, Indiana.

In late January, the laundry building at the prison's facility caught fire, causing extensive damage.

Now, officials say the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion and caused $1 million in damages to the building and equipment.

Prison officials say they will know by next month whether they will restore or rebuild a new laundry facility.

That will come with a price tag of nearly $1.5 million.

Until then, laundry from the nearly 2,100 offenders is being shipped to the Putnamville Correctional Facility.
