TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A local priest is giving his input on Pope Benedict XVI's resignation. The pontiff decided to step down, saying he was physically unable to carry on his duties.
It marks the first time in more than 600 years that a pope has abdicated. News 10 spoke with Father Ed Goldbach Of St. Benedicts Parish in Terre Haute.
He said he thinks the pope's decision comes at a good time. He feels it's better for the church that the Pope is able to recognize his weakness.
"I thought he should resign, because you could tell his health was not very good. He could hardly move, and I think it was good for him and best for the church that he made that decision," Fr. Goldbach said.
The pope has said he will resign by the end of this month.
