TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - More then 600 women filled up the Hulman Center Wednesday afternoon for the 9th Annual Power of the Purse.

It was part of a fundraiser for the United Way. Women bid on purses filled with different things.

All of the money raised will help benefit the not-for-profit group.

This year, organizers have a new item for sale.

“We unveiled the 2013 Protect and Serve United Way Calendar. It was all our local firemen and police officers, and we unveiled that today as well,” Marla Flowers, Chair of the Power of the Purse said.

In years past, the event raised more then $30,000. No word yet on how much this year’s brought in.
