VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A woman escapes serious injury after crashing into a utility pole in southern Vigo County.
Just after 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Vigo County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to Sullivan Place and Ryman Drive for a single vehicle crash.
Deputies tell News 10, the driver was traveling north on Sullivan Place when she drove through some standing water, lost control of her car and slid into a utility pole.
The pole then snapped in half causing the pole and live power lines fell on top of her car.
Sheriff's deputies say the driver did the right thing by staying inside her car until help arrived.
"It's very important to remember if you're ever involved in a crash involving utility lines of any kind, to remain inside your vehicle for your safety," Vigo Co. Sheriff Deputy Steve Meng said.
Deputies say Duke Energy responded to the crash to remove the power lines.
Thankfully, the driver did not receive any injuries.
