Postal changes start on Monday

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Post Office's officials confirm the Terre Haute processing plant will soon change as the community knows it.

For weeks now we've heard of the possible closing of the Margaret Avenue facility. Friday, News 10 spoke with Indiana's representative for the Postal Service who said they won't be closing, but changes are on the way.

The United States Postal Service has changed its consolidation timeline. Meaning the Terre Haute facility won't be closing this year, but changes start Monday.

Beginning Monday outgoing mail will no longer be processed at the Terre Haute facility. Any mail sent in our area will go to Indianapolis first.

The facility will continue to process mail coming in to Terre Haute and you can still drop off mail to be sent out from there.

The USPS new time line for consolidation actually is not as immediate as the previous plan set forward. Consolidation like the one we see here will happen across the country until September.

From September through the holiday season the consolidation plan will be put on hold; then re-evaluated in January of 2013.
