FARMERSBURG, Ind. (WTHI) - A string of car and garage break-ins the Wabash Valley have police warning homeowners to lock their doors.

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department says they've noticed a growing number of car and garage break-ins on the north side of Farmersburg.

Police say it’s been a growing problem over the last couple of weeks.

They believe that the thieves strike between midnight and early morning hours. But police say they found that a lot of the cars and garages were unlocked or left open during the time of the burglaries.

Police say they need the community’s help, so they are asking people to do their part and lock up.

Chief Deputy David Haddix, Sullivan County Sheriff Department, says "The Sheriff’s Department and the town marshal both encourage people that they need to lock up their vehicles at night. Don't leave purses and wallets and valuable items inside the vehicle and shut their garage doors down."

The Sullivan County Sheriff's Department says they have some suspects in mind.

They believe the string of break-ins are related and are possibly linked to a series of garage break-ins from this past summer.

Haddix says if anyone in the community sees anything suspicious, he says they should call Crime Stoppers at (812) 238-STOP.
