TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - People from all over the Wabash Valley braved the freezing temperatures Saturday morning for a good cause.

The fourth annual Polar Plunge invited guests to a pool outside Hulman Center Saturday morning.

Participants jumped into cold water to benefit Special Olympics.

150 plungers took part in the event, which is the most they've ever had.

They even saw some guests, Mayor Duke Bennett and ISU Police Chief Bill Mercier took part in the plunge.

"This has been terrific. It grows a little bit each year. It's really a neat combination of both ISU and the Terre Haute community coming together to put this thing on," Mercier said.

Terre Haute hosts just one of several events around the country during the month of February.

If you didn't get to participate today, you'll have another chance.
