TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Alexys Fields, better known as Lexy, is a rambunctious 7-year-old. She also has Down Syndrome as well as low muscle tone.
Four years ago, Lexy could not walk up stairs. Now, with physical therapy, she is much more mobile. And with an innovative playground, she can progress even more.
Union Hospital in Terre Haute installed a new playground, specifically for kids with special needs. It helps them work one on one with a therapist so they can eventually play on other playgrounds.
The playground cost 20,000 dollars and was funded by Duke Energy and the Union Hospital Fund.
