Plans for Chauncey Rose students

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The school year is less than a month away, and for some Vigo County students, it means finishing middle school in a different building.

Last June, the Vigo County School Corporation closed the doors on Chauncey Rose Middle School for good.

Thursday, News 10 spoke with Ray Azar of the Vigo County School Corporation to find out what happens next for those folks that were at Chauncey Rose.

He said Woodrow Wilson and Otter Creek Middle schools have both been structured to deal with the possible 100 plus students each school will receive.

But, for students who were in the district, but had not yet attended Chauncey Rose, Azar stated the elementary school they attended could determine their middle school.

Students of Oubache and Deming most likely will be sent to Otter Creek. While those at Franklin and Meadows could be headed to Woodrow Wilson.

While the added enrollment may seem like a lot, Azar said they'd planned all summer for this.

“If the schools needed more additional desks, chairs, boards, or any kind of equipment it has been provided. Now will there be some bugs in it? Perhaps,” Azar said, “maybe we'll need to go back and add more as we see how many students actually arrive.”
