CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A school bus in Clay County Indiana was involved in a crash Monday morning around 8:00 a.m. on County Road 800 North and 150 West.

Witnesses told the Clay County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a truck, Kasie Scarbrough, failed to yield to the right of way to a school bus.

The bus driver was unable to avoid hitting the truck, sending the truck into a light pole.

Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton told News Ten when deputies arrived, the Scarbrough was stuck in the truck and the power lines around her car were still live.  Emergency crews had to wait for Duke Energy to disconnect the power before they could help her. She was later transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for pelvic fractures and head trauma.

"People need to slow down and pay attention around early A.M. and afternoon hours when these school buses are out on the road to avoid this," said Clay County Sheriff Mike Heaton.

The bus driver and 40 students on board at the time of the crash were not seriously injured.

Sheriff Heaton said the students were all checked out by a doctor and their parents were notified.
