Parents concerned with crowded schools

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - It's the second week of the new school year and a new school for former Chauncey Rose students.

Some parents are worried that schools and buses are overcrowded.

We've received phone calls into our newsroom, Report Its, and Facebook comments from some of you saying that you're concerned about over-crowding issues.

We spoke with Vigo County School Corporation's Stacy Mason.

She said that they have not received any calls about the overcrowded schools.

However, they said the beginning of the year is always a little hectic, especially since the 6th grade class is the biggest class.

However, numbers will fluctuate.

Otter Creek, where the majority of Chauncey Rose students transferred, is running smoothly.

"Our numbers are always higher in the corporation at the beginning of a school year and they tend to dwindle as you move throughout the course of the year and so what we're experienced is no different than any other school year, even at Otter Creek," Director of Secondary Education Stacy Mason said.

As for buses, Vigo County School Superintendent Danny Tanoos said it takes a couple of weeks to get bus kinks worked out.

However, he said if he does find out buses are becoming overcrowded, adding another bus to the route isn't a problem.

Vigo County School Corporation said if you see that there is a problem, don't hesitate to talk to your school's principal, then the school corporation.
