Overnight shooting leaves one dead

An overnight shooting in Olney, Illinois kills one man, injures another, and sends a third to jail.

Police say just before 2 a.m. Sunday morning a 911 call reported a fight in progress near the Super 8 Motel on West Street. A second call revealed shots had been fired and one man was injured.

When police arrived on the scene, they requested an ambulance for Michael Scott Earp, 23, who had been shot in the abdomen. Earp was transported to the hospital and later died in surgery.

Police believe Christopher Arteberry also was shot during the fight, but he refused treatment.

Olney Police arrested Brandon Jenkins, 34, at the scene. The Houston, Texas man was charged with Aggravated Battery.

Police are still investigating this case.
