MARTIN CO., Ind. (WTHI) - Sunday night one person was injured in a two vehicle accident on US 50 near Red School Rd.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Steve Sexton reveals that at approximately 7:20 p.m. Sunday, a 1991 Pontiac, two door passenger car, had been traveling eastbound on US 50 when for unknown reasons the driver, Caleb E. Evans, 20, of Washington, Ind. lost control.

The Pontiac left the south side of the roadway and struck an embankment.

After striking the embankment the Pontiac spun back around onto the highway and crossed in front of a westbound 2013 KIA driven by Jesse Ray Tincher, 24, of Washington.

The KIA hit the Pontiac in the right rear causing the Pontiac to travel back off the roadway down an embankment and into a tree.

Evans was not wearing a seatbelt and was transported to IU Hospital in Bedford for treatment of a non-life threatening head injury. Tincher was wearing his seatbelt and not injured.

Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

The investigation is continuing.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor.
