Woman dead from Sunday morning fire

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - UPDATE:   Officials released more information Monday afternoon on a fatal fire that claimed the life of one Vigo County woman.

One woman was inside the apartment when the fire started.

Rosalie Trimmer, 71, died of smoke inhalation.

The Honey Creek Fire Department, along with the Fire Marshall investigated the blaze.

As of now, they’re calling it accidental, and believe it may have started from a baseboard heating unit.

A fire claimed the life of one person Sunday morning on the south side of Terre Haute.

The Honey Creek Fire Department responded to a call about a fire at an apartment building in the south side of Terre Haute.

Flames were visible upon arrival as firefighters worked as quickly as possible to battle the flames emitting from one of the apartments in the building, and evacuate remaining tenants.

One person was found dead inside the apartment. No names have been released at this time.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the flame before it spread to any of the other apartments.

The fire was ruled as accidental, and, upon investigation, a smoke detector was located in the dwelling; however, it was not in working order.

No firefighters were injured.
