VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - ATV accidents are on the rise in Indiana. Now, law enforcement wants something done about it.
Offiicial say there have been 232 accidents involving ATVs so far in 2012 in Indiana. 14 of those crashes have been fatal.
Indiana Conservation Officer Matt Vossel told News 10, too many times he's seen accidents caused by amateur riders improperly operating their ATVs. He said that practice could be fixed.
"We're going to have to grow toward having some sort of proper training," Vossel said.
He and other officers favor having riders go through some sort of official training. As of now, no legislation has been passed or presented, but riders who spoke to News 10 said it could be a positive.
"It'd be a good idea because so many people are getting hurt," ATV rider, Justin Bailey said.
