Officer awarded for keeping T.H. safe

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A police officer is recognized for his efforts to keep the community safe.
Tuesday, The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration presented Patrolman Orbie Dawson with a letter of commendation and a certificate of appreciation for his efforts with the "Click It or Ticket" campaign.
Ptl. Dawson, who has been with the Terre Haute Police Department for 27 years, put in 21 hours of overtime during the 2012 campaign, as well as cited several people for not buckling up.
He said everyone should take seatbelts seriously.
“It's a good feeling to be able to enforce this law because I believe in the seatbelt law. I've been doing it for several years. […] I enforce it with my own family, as well. And I've seen the results both negatively and positively with seatbelts. So it's important to enforce this,” said Ptl. Dawson.
Ptl. Dawson went on to say he has never received a certificate of appreciation before.
