TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - If you think teaching is just a job, then you won't understand why Ron Taylor does what he does.
He taught in the Vigo County School Corporation for nearly 50 years. It's never been just a job to him.
"When the need is here, I think there's a great reward as you work toward helping the children, and it's helping the children that draws me to do this," Taylor said.
The interesting thing is that Taylor retired two years ago, but he keeps on going, volunteering his abilities at Terre Town Elementary School. He teaches kids, helping them read, and that's just before the bell rings.
"After school, he cleans the lounge and landscapes the outside and decorates the building. He just never stops," Carla Lewis said.
It's the reason he was named this month's Make a Difference Award winner presented by WTHI-TV and Frontier communications. He greeted the surprised with a humble smile. We could wrap up his impact by speaking with one of his second grade students, Nicole Jenkins.
"He's a really great person. He helps our school. He like cleans it. He is awesome!" Jenkins said. He may have left his official teaching job behind, but he's continuing his passion of educating others.
Ron's wife Cinda Taylor is the principal at Terre Town Elementary. He said he couldn't ask for a better boss.
