Oblong begins Jr Police Academy

OBLONG, ILL. (WTHI) - When you see police busts, flashing lights, and gunfire it can be intimidating, especially for kids.

Oblong Police Chief Chad Pusey said he wants that to change. That's why helped begin a new program in his city. It's the Junior Police Academy founded by Danville, Illinois native Phil LeConte.

So far, nearly 35 students, grade 5 through 8 have joined. During each class the kids learn about police and how make positive choices.

The cops are putting themselves out there to do it.
"For us to interact with them is very positive, not only to the kids but to myself," Chief Pusey said.
