Prison officer arrested for trafficking

CARLISLE, Ind. (WTHI) - An officer at the Wabash Valley Correctional Facility is behind bars after being accused of trafficking.

Officials said James Sheerin, 25, of Terre Haute, was stopped Thursday night as he tried to enter the prison with marijuana, cell phones and chargers, tobacco and a video game player.

A search of his car uncovered heroin and cocaine plus additional cell phones. Prison officials had apparently been tracking Sheerin for about a week.

Two housing units have been placed on lockdown while an investigation continues.

Sheerin is being held at the Sullivan County Jail.
