TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Despite Facebook's new privacy controls, users can still find out personal information about other users.
News 10 found out cell phone numbers and vacation status, among other personal details, by typing certain keywords into Facebook's search and viewing status updates.
Facebook's new privacy controls put in place last week should keep user information private.
"Clicking on customize is the easiest way to get in and be able to adjust who can see what," Trey Meeker of Computers Plus said.
But Facebook users need set those controls because the site's defaults allow more open access to personal information.
"There are very private settings that you can go in and do, but you still have to go in and do them," Meeker said. "By default it's not just going to protect your stuff right off the bat."
To customize your Facebook settings, click on 'Account,' 'Privacy Settings,' and make your selections.
