New development in Cobblestone controversy

VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - As of 6:00 a.m. on September 13, the Cobblestone Crossing construction workers will be forced to stop.

It was a decision made on Tuesday morning, when Vigo County Commissioners granted a Stop-Work Order.

The change comes after Area Planning Commissioner Norm Froderman admitted during a public meeting to having financial ties to Cobblestone.

"He should have recused himself on every vote that had anything to do with cobblestone and he did not and we have all of that in minutes. That he not only voted, but, many times, he made the motion for it to be approved," state Mike Poinsett, a Woodgate Homeowner.

This major conflict was brought to the Commissioners' attention and demanded action.

'We now feel like we need to do a Stop-Work Order.  There has to be some kind of conclusion drawn down there," said Vigo County Commissioner Judy Anderson.

For Mike Poinsett, and his fellow neighbors, the Stop-Work Order isn't enough, and the battle isn't over.

"We want a substantial barrier; we want the illegal apartments torn down; and we want this to go back to the way this was promised to us, from the beginning, from Cobblestone," Poinsett said.

It’s a promise surrounding homeowners say was broken.

Poinsett said on Wednesday, the neighborhoods’ attorney and the attorney of Jim Nielinger, who owns Cobblestone, will meet.

The neighbors’ attorney plans to ask for the original plan of single-family homes to be built, and the apartments to be torn down.
