TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College (SMWC) is helping with your taxes!
Some students volunteered to help residents with their federal and Indiana income tax returns for free.
It’s called the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) to help low to moderate income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns.
Students said this gives them the opportunity for real-life experience and gives them practical practice outside of the classroom.
But it also gives them the ability to help out their community.
"It’s very rewarding to know that what you’re doing actually makes a difference. So not only are you learning it in the classroom and getting a grade, but you can actually see that you’re helping somebody else,” said Jennifer Hughes, volunteer accounting student.
For more information or to reserve an appointment with SMWC’s VITA site, call 812-535-5223.
You can also drop off a simple return at Hulman Hall, Room 02.
