INDIANAPOLIS (WHTI) - Indiana State Police want to remind all parents that September 16 through September 22 is National Child Passenger Safety Week.
Since approximately 85 percent of child safety seats are being misused nationally, troopers want to encourage parents to take a few extra minutes to ensure their children are restrained properly.
Just last year in Indiana, 90 children under the age of 16 were killed, and nearly 7,000 were injured in crashes.
Indiana’s Child Restraint Law:
All children under the age of 8 must be properly restrained in a child safety seat or booster seat according to the child restraint system manufacturer’s instructions. Many parents are confused about the law, so troopers want to help explain the proper and legal way to restrain their children.
Indiana State Police would like to remind parents and others who transport children the following safety tips:
