VIGO CO., Ind. (WTHI) - For low income families, it’s extremely hard to round up enough funding to make purchases for their children’s school clothes and supplies, especially for single parent families.
Covenant Cooperative Ministry has been trying to help with the financial hardships of these low income families by holding a school supply program.
The program is called First Days Back 2 School, and the method is to have more fortunate, good-hearted people sponsor a low income child.
The most important sponsorship donation is money; however, other donations include provisions such as pencils, pens, rulers, new shoes, socks, clothing and more.
All of these items provide a low income child with the basic necessities to succeed in school.
Though the program has already provided some of the youth with the supplies they need, First Days Back 2 School is still in need of financial contributions and sponsors to provide new shoes and new clothing to 100 impoverished Vigo County students.
Sponsorship tags are available at K-Mart, T.J. Maxx, Old Navy and Pacesetter Sports.
CCM will continue to collect school supplies, backpacks, new clothing and new shoes in all sizes for youth K-12 for the program.
Items may be delivered to CCM, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. through August 10.
Rose Aycock, CCM’s Executive Director stated that it’s sad that 100 youth may not have the basic necessities for school. She also mentioned that it’s been challenging to find sponsors for the program, and there’s an urgent need for monetary donations.
Families selected for this program are of the lowest income bracket and many are single parents who cannot afford to purchase these items.
If you would to donate, or would like more information about the program, you may call (812) 478-7700.
CCM is located at 122 S. 10 ½ St., Terre Haute, IN.
