More reaction to tax mishandling

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A million dollar mistake raises some questions.

Thursday, Indiana officials announced they had mishandled more than $200 million in taxes. That money will now go to counties.

Officials said Vigo County will be getting more than $3 million of it. They said most likely that money will funnel down to taxing units in the county and in Terre Haute.

County workers said they're happy about the money, but they're still not sure how the mistake could have happened in the first place.

"I would assume, somewhere, somebody moved a decimal point, or omitted a process or a step in the procedure and it just got lost in the shuffle," county auditor Tim Seprodi said.
