More Burn Bans issued

INDIANA (WTHI) - With warm and dry conditions continuing to batter southwestern Indiana, officials Tuesday announced more burn bans for some communities.

Areas to join already-in-effect burn bans include: The city of Jasonville, Indiana and Clinton, Indiana.

Chris R. Strohm, fire chief of the City of Clinton, along with Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Clinton Tuesday issued an executive order to enforce the ban.

In Clinton, the ban prohibits any open burning that was previously allowed within the current burning ordinance for the City of Clinton, said officials.  This burning ban only pertains to the city limits of Clinton, Indiana.  This ban also includes the careless discard of smoking materials.

In a press release from the City Of Clinton, officials issued the following statement: “This ban does NOT include the use of any enclosed outdoor cooking equipment such as gas grills, charcoal grills or smoker grills.  This ban also does not restrict the use of fireworks.  It is extremely important for those individuals that use fireworks during this time to exercise the utmost caution and to use the fireworks in a responsible manner.  Even though fireworks are excluded from the burning ban if an individual using fireworks causes a fire they are liable for their actions.”

The burn ban will remain active until conditions improve, officials said.

Clinton and Jasonville join a growing list of already-in-effect burn bans. Officials in Vigo, Sullivan and Knox counties have issued similar bans.
