TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett said he will look into a public housing unit infested with roaches.
News 10 brought you the story of Molly Martinez who is living in a Terre Haute housing authority unit that is being overrun with cockroaches. The property director told News 10 on Tuesday that she knew it was an on-going problem.
On Wednesday, News 10 contacted Terre Haute Housing Authority Executive Director Jeff Stewart. Stewart refused to go on camera but said in the last 90 days, exterminators have sprayed the unit 6 times and will be back on Monday.
Mayor Duke Bennett said the city will keep working until the insects are eradicated.
"We just need to make sure that the issue is being taken care of," said Bennett. "I'll follow up with the Housing Authority just to insure that. I'm sure that they're on top of that, we'll just make sure that everything is getting taken care of on that."
Bennett said it is the responsibility of both the city and the tenant to keep this home and any other public housing unit clean.
