TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A year long celebration going on in Terre Haute and across the nation.

The March of Dimes is celebrating their 75th anniversary.

The day started with Terre Haute mayor Duke Bennett reading a proclamation.

The March of Dimes is especially working to fight premature births.

Currently one in every eight babies is born preterm.

Officials say it'll be a challenge to get that number down, but they're used to fighting for good causes.

"If we can conquer polio which is how we started, then we can certainly in this generation conquer issues of premature birth," said Nikki Simpson from the March of Dimes.
