VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) - Vincennes City Firefighters are offering a helping hand to those affected by superstorm Sandy.

According to firefighters Justin Lowe and David Bohmeier , a fundraiser has been launched to help those firefighters whose homes were either lost or damaged in the Oct 29th storm.

According to Lowe , at least 500 New York and New Jersey firefighters have been displaced by the storm.

"That's something all firefighters understand, We are there to help others, but in the back of our mind, we are thinking about our own families and our own homes too," Lowe said.

Funds will be raised between now and the middle of Dec, when some Vincennes City Firefighters plan to make the trip to the New York and New Jersey Fire Departments,  and deliver the check along with an offer to help do some rebuilding while they are there.

To donate, contact the Vincennes City Fire Dept at 812-882-2600.
