Local reaction to Romney's running mate

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - The Republican Vice Presidential nomination announcement came out of Virginia, but it could make some waves right back here in the valley.

We sat down with Indiana State economist Dr. Guell for more insight into the choice of economic-minded Paul Ryan as Mitt Romney’s running mate.

He said the selection puts the nation’s funds and the budget first in the mind of the Republican Party.

Guell explained that Ryan was not chosen necessarily for his social views, but for his budget ideas regarding the United States economy and national debt.

"Paul Ryan is one of the intellectual heavyweights for the Republican Party, which means whether you agree with him or disagree with him, he's got an actual plan that would put a serious cut on the federal deficit,” Guell said of Ryan.

Guell added that Ryan also has an alternative plan he has been working on for the Affordable Health Care Act. He said the Republican party was looking for a running mate with concrete plans over ideas.
